Help Hearts Heal #GivingTuesday
Grief Support for
The mission of The Adam Wysota Foundation is to offer grief education and peer support in a home-like setting called Adam’s House. We have restored the perfect location in Shelton, CT. Adam’s House is a safe, healing place for families as they go though their 8-week grief journey. Here, children and their families will gather to draw support from their peers and gain new strategies for dealing with their loss. We support children struggling with any type loss- parent, grandparent, sibling, aunt/uncle or friend. All programs are offered at NO-COST to participating families. Ultimately, our goal is to empower our program participants to cope with their loss so they may live their lives to the fullest. Call us at (203) 513-2808 to learn more and get started as one of our program families.
Have a business or organization that might be interested in collaborating to help support Connecticut's children? We're always interested in being of value to our communities in the Valley and beyond.
Have a special skill, time or desire to help a non-profit? A friend of Adam’s House may also work on event committees, assist with office/house work, when the staff needs an extra hand. We also need valuable contributions from social media experts, grant writers, fundraisers, and artists, builders, gardeners, just to name a few!
We always need a helping hand!
"Helping Hearts HEAL" Program for Children
At Adam’s House, children learn they will not have to grieve alone.
No-cost peer support education programs where children meet in either the Littles, Middles or Teen group while caregivers attend their own group.
We meet once a week from 6pm-8pm for 8-weeks. Please note our program is not a drop-in group. We work with your family to match you with a group that provides the best support.
The program is designed to support a child, 5-18 years of age, through the death of a loved one. Peer support has been studied and considered an effective model of support for grief.
Spring program will begin soon. Please contact us today if you are interested in enrolling.
Have a little free time on your hands?
Stop by Wednesdays 9:00 am-noon and one of our staff members will show you around our center.
Do you represent a charitable business? Stop by and find out how your company can support our mission. Contact us if you require a tour after business hours.
We also welcome our local teachers, mental health professionals, non-profit partners and our community to learn how the program at Adam's House can support bereaved children and their families.
Tours take about 30-45mins.
Tuesday & Thursday by appointment only
Our Program Model
Adam’s House uses a closed-ended education model. A closed group means that once the group members have been interviewed by our staff and cleared by our specialist partners, they begin the program together and end the program together.
Once a family is offered the option of entering a program, they must commit to attending each week’s meeting of the eight-week program.
A closed-ended model provides the group a sense of security so children feel safe enough to share their grief with their new friends. Parents/guardians meet as a group while the children are meeting. Parents/guardians will learn ways support and converse with their children about their grief. They are instructed about developmental tasks of all ages and how to appropriately model grief for their children.
The peer support educational programs at Adam’s House are not meant to replace specialized therapy for children who have been traumatized by their loss or who have special needs. In this case, our Adam’s House specialist will refer to the family to our one-on-one partner professionals.
Children are placed into age-appropriate groups. Children groups include "Littles"(5-7yrs), "Middles"(8-13 yrs) and "Teens"( 14-18 yrs).
Adam's House may be new to Connecticut but the program has been successfully implemented for more than 20 years by our mentor center, Olivia's House in York, Pennsylvania. We are forever grateful for their guidance, support and allowing us to bring their wealth of grief wisdom to our "Helping Hearts Heal"program.
With a grateful heart...
